(1972-1982, SWE) – Pop group that – how unlike Napoleon – took its most important triumph from Waterloo.
The four ABBA members are said to have initially considered Festfolk as their band name, but eventually the first names of Anni-Frid Lyngstad (also known as Frida), Björn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson and Agnetha Fältskog provided the acronym that made the group world famous. The abbreviation was introduced because – as the story goes – manager Stig Andersson got tired of having to mention the complete line-up of his band time and again.
At first there were some issues with a fish processing company of the same name, but these were solved.
Those who want to get it perfectly right write the first B backwards.
