Underworld band name meaning

During the last few decades Karl Hyde and Rick Smith cooperated under many different names: as Lemon Interrupt, Steppin' Razor, Mr. and Mrs. Christmas and as Underworld as well of course.

The duo from Romford came down to the band name after publication of a film of the same name by Clive Barker (1985). And that was predestined, because the two had participated in the soundtrack of that film using the pseudonym Freur.
