Judas Priest is one of the heavy metal bands that really matter, judging by the nickname The Metal Gods. Coming from Birmingham, England and allegedly good for about forty million sold albums, these dignitaries will have secured the loot by now.
The expression 'Judas Priest' once was in vogue to cloak the words 'Jesus Christ' when these were intended as a curse. Much like 'Gee' and 'Gosh'. But it was not a hypocritical curse that led to the band name. The source of inspiration in this case was the song The Ballad of Frankie Lee and Judas Priest, carved into vinyl by Bob Dylan in 1967.
